Armed with a passion for songwriting and a knack for telling the stories of others, Singapore-born Soph Retief won the 2016 edition of MTV Asia's Project Aloft Star, beating out close to 500 entries all around South East Asia. Her last single, "Hate How You Love Me", made it onto 11 curated playlists on Spotify and Apple Music, including 6 New Music Fridays and features on TimeOut Singapore, SGWonderwall, The Straits Times as well as Power 98 Raw radio.
The musician of British and South African descent discovered a love for music at the young age of 5 and wrote her first song when she was 11. At 17, she received her first radio support for two of her songs on BBC Music Introducing Devon. Inspired by the anecdotes of those closest to her and her personal experiences living in some of the biggest cities in the world, Soph writes universally relatable lyrics with resonating themes of love, independence, growth and the challenges of wanderlust. Taking the lead from the likes of Maisie Peters, Meghan Trainor and Olivia Rodrigo in crafting her pop sensibilities, Soph's irresistible melodies and captivating vocals remains in any listener’s head and moves their feet.
